Rhode Island Education Collective Publishes Inaugural Report, Announces Partnerships with Public Schools and Investments in Programs Aimed at Increasing Educational Opportunities

Providence, RI – Rhode Island Education Collective today issued its inaugural report on its efforts to ensure that every child in our state can go to a great public school. Since launching in early 2024, the nonprofit’s work has included investing in student support programs, assisting with the development of two new high-quality public schools, and convening hundreds of community members to lead discussions on how to better shape successful educational outcomes for all.

The Collective is focused on empowering the people who are part of our schools and neighborhoods to create the change our students need. In June, the nonprofit put this approach into motion for the first time in a significant way when it convened 100+ families, educators, and community leaders for three days of discussions and interactive activities about how to improve our state’s public education system, especially for students living in historically marginalized and underserved communities.

“During these sessions, the Collective heard an urgency from families to increase access to 21st century educational opportunities, and to support multilingual learners and differently abled students,” said Rhode Island Education Collective Founder and CEO Victor Capellan. “We’re eager to collaborate on innovative solutions to these long-standing challenges. Together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of our students and in the future of our communities. We look forward to sharing our progress.”

Currently, the Collective is collaborating with partners and advocates to provide support on key initiatives that will impact public school students across our state. Projects include expanding access to the RI’s ABLE program, improving student attendance in Central Falls, advocating for MLL and refugee students, and guiding new schools through the planning and approval process.
